Most people planning a Sikkim honeymoon land on Google typing '5 nights', '7 nights' or '10 nights'. The honest data from our own bookings says: 5 or 6 nights is the sweet spot. 4 nights works if you are strictly Gangtok + one add. 7 nights is only worth it if you add Darjeeling properly. 10 nights is rare, usually too much, and typically ends with the couple wanting more downtime and less driving.
This guide is written off 33 honeymoon enquiries we handled and the real trips that came out of them. Median budget: ₹2 lakh per couple all-in (permits, vehicle, hotels, breakfast + one hot meal daily). Hotel preference: 3-star (58%) with 4-star and 5-star each a smaller slice. Almost every request was 2 adults, 0 children. Below is the honest breakdown by duration with real itineraries, real hotels, and what to cut if you are short.
The quick answer
- 4 nights: Gangtok + Tsomgo day trip only. Airport-to-airport works. Skip North Sikkim entirely (high-altitude drives eat the trip). Skip Darjeeling. Skip Pelling. Total ₹65,000 to ₹85,000 per couple depending on hotel tier.
- 5 nights: Gangtok (2 nights) + Pelling (2 nights) + travel day. Kanchenjunga sunrise from both sides. No North Sikkim. Total ₹90,000 to ₹1,25,000 per couple.
- 6 nights: Gangtok (2) + Lachung (1) + Pelling (2) + travel. Adds one North Sikkim day for Yumthang. This is the median actual booking. Total ₹1,25,000 to ₹1,75,000 per couple.
- 7 nights: Gangtok (2) + Lachung (1) + Pelling (2) + Darjeeling (1) + travel. Adds Kanchenjunga from Tiger Hill and the toy-train option. Total ₹1,50,000 to ₹2,25,000 per couple.
- 10 nights: rare shape. Usually only when the couple explicitly wants Kalimpong, Ravangla, Old Silk Route or a rhododendron trek. If that is not you, book 7 and add 3 nights at a beach later.
The 5-night Sikkim honeymoon
Day 1: Bagdogra arrival, private cab to Gangtok (4 hours, 125 km). Check in Cilantro by Dellsio or Summit Golden Crescent (3-star), Denzong Regency or Elgin Nor-Khill (4-star), Mayfair Spa Resort (5-star). Rest and cable car ride in the evening. Dinner at MG Marg. Day 2: Gangtok half-day (Rumtek Monastery, Enchey Monastery, Institute of Tibetology, Do Drul Chorten), afternoon relaxed. Day 3: Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir day trip (₹6,500 to ₹8,000 for the vehicle including permit). Return to Gangtok. Day 4: Drive to Pelling (140 km, 5-6 hours via Ravangla). Check in Elgin Mount Pandim or Norbughang Retreat (4-star), Newa Retreat (3-star). Sunset from Sangacholing viewpoint. Day 5: Sunrise from Upper Pelling for the Kanchenjunga dawn. Rabdentse Ruins, Pemayangtse Monastery, Khecheopalri Lake, Kanchenjunga Falls. Day 6: Drive to Bagdogra (155 km, 5-6 hours). Fly out.
The 6-night Sikkim honeymoon (our most-booked shape)
Adds one North Sikkim day to the 5-night version. Day 1-2: as above (Gangtok arrival + Gangtok sightseeing). Day 3: Depart Gangtok early for Lachung (135 km, 6-7 hours through the North Sikkim permit checkpoint). Check in at a partner Bhutia-run lodge in Lachung. Evening walk in the village. Day 4: Full-day Yumthang Valley of Flowers and Zero Point (₹4,000 to ₹5,500 for the vehicle). Return to Lachung for the second night. Day 5: Long drive back through the Chungthang confluence to Pelling (270 km, 9-10 hours). This is a hard drive day. Some couples prefer to break it with a Gangtok overnight in between, which pushes to 7 nights. Day 6: Pelling sunrise + local sights as in the 5-night version. Day 7: Drive to Bagdogra.
The 7-night Sikkim + Darjeeling honeymoon
Adds Darjeeling to the 6-night version. The 7-night shape works well if either partner is a serious tea person, wants the toy train, or specifically wants Tiger Hill sunrise. Day 1-6: as in the 6-night version but shorten the second Lachung night. Day 7: From Pelling drive to Darjeeling (75 km but 4-5 hours on hill roads). Check in at Cilantro by Dellsio, Cochrane Place near Kurseong, Sinclairs Retreat (3-star), Windamere Hotel or Elgin Darjeeling (4-star), Glenburn Tea Estate (5-star). Sunset from Chowrasta Mall. Day 8: Tiger Hill sunrise 4am (₹800 to ₹1,200 for the jeep), Batasia Loop toy-train segment (₹1,500 per person for the joy ride), Ghum Monastery, Happy Valley Tea Estate, Peace Pagoda. Departure to Bagdogra (95 km, 3-4 hours). Fly out.

What to skip on a honeymoon (and why)
- Gurudongmar Lake (currently closed; even when open, altitude gain is too aggressive for a honeymoon pace)
- Old Silk Route Zuluk-Nathang loop (deserves its own dedicated 5-night trip; forcing it into a honeymoon breaks the pace and needs cold-weather kit that most honeymoon travellers do not carry)
- Kanchenjunga trek base camps (physical exertion mismatches the trip mood)
- Multiple long drive days back-to-back (aim for maximum one 5-6 hour drive per day, ideally with one full rest day between drives)
- 5-star only in Lachung/Lachen (does not exist. If you insist on 5-star everywhere, cut North Sikkim and stay Gangtok + Darjeeling)
Best months for a Sikkim honeymoon
The two best windows are the second half of April (rhododendron bloom, clean post-winter air, mid-tier prices) and the middle two weeks of November (peak Kanchenjunga visibility, shoulder pricing, no festival crowds). Second-best: late September for the post-monsoon clarity before the October peak. Avoid mid-May to end-June (peak school-holiday crowds, doubled rates, hazy afternoons) unless your dates are locked. Avoid July and August unless you enjoy monsoon. Some couples do; the region is at its greenest, waterfalls are at peak flow, and hotel rates are 40-50% off, but views are limited.
