About Morgan House

Morgan House is a 1930 colonial bungalow built by a British jute merchant on a forested hilltop above Kalimpong, now operated as a heritage hotel by West Bengal Tourism. The house is one of the best-preserved examples of Raj-era hill station domestic architecture in the Eastern Himalayas: original dark wood floors, open fireplaces, period furniture, a wide veranda facing the Teesta valley, and gardens that a century of maintenance has brought to their full maturity. The view from the front lawn over the Teesta gorge and toward the Nepal foothills is wide and unhurried. Even for visitors not staying the night, the grounds are accessible and the combination of the architecture, the gardens and the view is worth an hour of a Kalimpong morning.
