About Zong Dog Palri Monastery
Zong Dog Palri Fo-Brang Monastery (also called Durpin Monastery) is a large and strikingly colourful Tibetan Buddhist monastery on Durpin Hill in central Kalimpong, consecrated by the Dalai Lama. Built in the 1970s on instructions from the Dalai Lama, it is one of the most important Nyingma monasteries in the Darjeeling-Sikkim region. The monastery houses rare thangka paintings, ancient manuscripts and a collection of Tibetan religious objects. The approach road winds through oak forest to the summit, where the monastery faces directly toward Kanchenjunga.
