About Cochrane Place
Cochrane Place is a 1920s colonial bungalow that has been meticulously restored and now operates as a boutique heritage hotel and day-visitor café. The original dark wood floors, open fireplaces, period photographs of the Raj-era Darjeeling district and the wide veranda facing the tea gardens and valley are all intact. For visitors not staying the night, the property is open for afternoon tea and estate walks — a welcome alternative to the standard hotel tea lounge. The tea served is from the surrounding Cochrane estate rows visible from the veranda. Sitting in a 100-year-old cane chair with a first-flush Darjeeling and the valley below is one of the better things to do in Kurseong.
