About Dow Hill Forest
Dow Hill Forest is the stretch of dense temperate forest above Victoria Boys' School in Kurseong — a 3km forest road under an oak and rhododendron canopy that has accumulated a ghost legend, a birdwatching reputation and a quality of atmosphere that is unusual in any hill station. The 'Death Road' designation (from a local legend about headless figures on the forest path at noon) draws curiosity seekers; the 200+ bird species documented here draw naturalists; the rhododendron tunnel in March–April draws photographers. The forest walk to Eagle Craig (3km from the road end) is the best short trek in the Kurseong district. Whatever the reason for coming, the Dow Hill forest delivers a mood that is hard to describe and harder to forget.
