About Teesta Valley Scenic Drive
The 60km drive along the Teesta river from Rangpo to Mangan is one of the most consistently beautiful valley roads in the Eastern Himalayas. The road clings to the cliff face above the turquoise river for long sections, passing through subtropical jungle, terraced farms, small monasteries and cardamom-growing villages. The Teesta is simultaneously a sacred river (it flows from the glaciers of North Sikkim to the Bengal plains), a commercial lifeline (the road and river define the North Sikkim access corridor), and a strikingly beautiful piece of natural geography — turquoise at its clearest in the dry months, roaring brown in the monsoon. The section between Singhik and Mangan is the most dramatic: the road at cliff height, the river 200m below, occasional waterfalls crossing the road from above.
Why go to Teesta Valley Scenic Drive
Turquoise river below sheer cliff roads
The stretch of road between Singhik and Mangan is one of the most striking sections of highway in North Sikkim — 200m above the turquoise Teesta, with waterfalls crossing the road from the cliffs above.
