About Mirik Tea Garden
Mirik sits surrounded by some of the finest Darjeeling tea estates — Thurbo, Gopaldhara and Singell — whose terraced rows cover the hillsides above and below the town. A 15-minute walk from the lake brings you into the estate rows at the edge of Thurbo or Gopaldhara, and between March and November, plucking is in progress. The walk up through the estates (no ticketing, no formal path — just the service roads) is the most accessible tea estate experience in the Darjeeling district: you see the plucking up close, the weighing stations where women offload their day's leaf, the factory visible further up the slope. Unlike Happy Valley estate in Darjeeling which requires a guided factory tour, the Mirik estate edge is simply walkable from the town.
