About Maenam Hill
Maenam Hill at 3,266m is the dominant peak above Ravangla and the primary trek from the town. Inside the Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary, the trail climbs from the town fringe through progressively dense rhododendron and magnolia forest before emerging onto the open ridge summit with 270° views of Kanchenjunga, the Rathong Chu valley, and on the clearest days, the West Bengal plains 2,000m below. The forest is one of the most intact in South Sikkim — large magnolia trees, tree rhododendrons, and the constant birdsong of a healthy temperate forest. The trail takes 2.5–3 hours to the top and the same to return. No technical sections. The sanctuary entry fee (₹100) is collected at the trail start in the town.

- Start early — the summit views are best before 10am when mist typically builds from the valley.
- Carry water (1.5 litres minimum) — no water sources on the trail above the first 2km.
- The sanctuary trail is well-worn but steep on the upper section. Trekking poles are useful.
- Hire a Ravangla local guide (₹500–800) for the first time — the trail splits in a few places and the guide adds wildlife context.
