About Arya Tea Estate
Arya Tea Estate — better known by its older name, Castleton — is one of the most acclaimed tea gardens in the Darjeeling district, a short drive below Tinchuley on the valley road. Castleton is famous for its second-flush muscatel teas, which have consistently achieved among the highest auction prices per kilogram of any Darjeeling estate. The estate is not a mass-tourism operation: visitors who turn up can usually walk through the rows with the permission of the estate manager, and factory tours are available during the flush seasons (March–June, October–November) on prior arrangement. The setting is beautiful — the estate runs up a south-facing hillside at 1,500–2,000m, with Tinchuley above and the Teesta valley visible in the distance below.
