About Gangtok Ropeway
Gangtok's ropeway runs three stations across the forested ridges south of the city, and from the highest station at Tashiling you look back across the full urban spread of Gangtok — the white houses and orange-roofed gompas terraced down the ridge, with the snow peaks visible to the north on clear days. The ride takes about 10 minutes per section and the gondolas hold four passengers. It is not the Alps — the infrastructure is well-maintained but functional rather than luxurious — but the aerial perspective on a Himalayan city is unique and the 5-minute window passing over deep forest between the lower stations is genuinely beautiful. The ropeway runs from the lower station at Deorali (near the market) up to the middle station at Nam Nang and then to Tashiling. It occasionally closes for maintenance, so confirm it is running before building your itinerary around it.
