About Tashi Viewpoint
If you want to see Kanchenjunga from Gangtok and you only have one morning, Tashi Viewpoint is where you go. It sits 3km from MG Marg at 1,790m on the ridge above the town, facing the full northern skyline — Kanchenjunga (8,586m), Siniolchu, Pandim and the entire snow arc that dominates North Sikkim. The viewing platform and the low stone wall in front of it are the classic backdrop for a thousand Gangtok photos. Come at sunrise from October to April and you'll see the peaks turn gold, then pink, then white as the sun rises behind you. A chai stall at the car park has been here for decades and the chai is better than it has any right to be on a cold morning.
Why go to Tashi Viewpoint
Best sunrise viewpoint in Gangtok
Kanchenjunga turns from deep gold to brilliant white as the sun rises over the eastern ridge. This is the one that looks like the postcard — because it is the postcard.
Full Himalayan arc without obstruction
The ridge is open to the north, giving an uninterrupted view from Siniolchu to Pandim. On the best clear-sky October mornings you can count seven or eight distinct peaks.
