About Jorebunglow & Sukhiapokhri
Jorebunglow and Sukhiapokhri are two adjacent small towns 14km from Darjeeling on the main road toward Sandakphu, sitting on the ridge at around 1,820m. They are rarely listed as primary destinations, which is part of their appeal — the view of the Singalila Range from the ridge here is the same panorama that Tiger Hill charges admission for, but with none of the crowds and all the charm of ordinary Darjeeling hill life going about its morning business. On a clear October morning from the main square at Sukhiapokhri, you can see Kanchenjunga, Kabru, Rathong and the Singalila ridge in one sweep. The towns are also the natural starting point for the Tonglu day hike (6km up to 3,070m) and the trailhead for the Mirik Valley walk — short, easy and consistently underrated.
